Leather Love!

Ohhh I am so happy it is Fall!! Fall and Winter are my favourite times of the year in regards fashion! I find I can truly be myself during these months, I can wear my leather jackets whenever I want, and I can layer my clothes!

For this post I decided to style my new little number from Zara, and it is this fab faux leather jacket with silver hardware! I got this for my birthday and I’ve been in love ever since!

IMG_2396.jpg

I have paired the jacket with my River Island cropped black jeans, this new Khaki green jumper from Primark/Penny’s and my new Chelsea style boots, which are also from Primark/Penny’s!

Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Review

My fiance James bought me the Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 for my birthday, if you have seen my birthday wish list post you will know it was right on the top of that list, so as you can imagine I was pretty excited when I unwrapped my present!

Seen as this is the new version in the Instax family, I decided to do a quick review of the camera, looking at some of the new features and what I personally like and dislike about the camera!

The Packaging

IMG_2168

I will be honest I am a sucker for packaging, I am the type of person who will buy or not buy a product based on how the item is presented!

After unwrapping a 100 layers of pink paper, I was happy to see this gorgeous Smoky White colour box! I really liked this colour out of the line up of shades available in the mini 9 collection!

The box is clear and simple and not overloaded with unnecessary junk! It has the name, model, some features, the camera itself and some sample photo shots! I like packaging that is clean and presented well and this is definitely that!

What Is In The Box

IMG_2189

Inside the box is another box and beside this was a silver foil packet, this contained the 10 free Polaroid shots that comes with this kit!

I will be honest I was a little disappointed with the layout, I was expecting to open the outside box to find the camera displayed nicely in a tray mold, but I wasn’t expecting separate packaging. Obviously it is only packaging and it doesn’t take away from the camera itself, but it was just something I felt when I opened it.

IMG_2203

The inner box contained the camera itself, which came is a protective sleeve, which I have thrown out! As well as the camera there was 2x AA batteries, instruction manuals, an Instax sticker, a close up lens attachment and a camera strap.

The Camera Itself

IMG_2273

The camera looks very similar to the previous model, the mini 8, but you will see some new additions!

IMG_2226

The first difference you will spot on the front is the small mirror beside the lens, this is in fact a selfie mirror, to make it easier for users to take selfie shots with the camera. I think this is a great addition, because let’s be honest, we all love taking selfies! This little addition will help prevent the user from not actually being in the shot because they had the angle wrong!!

IMG_2220

The next addition is the close up lens attachment, this clips onto the front of the camera lens and it also has a hoop to allow it to be tied to the camera. Although it does not come with a string to tie it on. This attachment allows for close-ups of up to 35cm away. I haven’t felt the need to use the close up lens yet, so I can’t comment on how it works, but I will update later when I have tried it out!

Like the Mini 8, the Mini 9 come with 5 brightness modes, these are as follows,

IMG_2261

Hi-Key: Takes pictures with a softer impression

Sunny

Sunny, Slightly Cloudy

Cloudy, Shade

Indoors, Night

The Instax Mini 9 also informs the user of the best setting to use, it automatically determines the best brightness setting and lights up the right option to allow the user to change it before taking the picture!

The back of the camera is kept simple, it has the compartment for the film to go into, a small window at the bottom corner shows how many shots are remaining in the camera. In the top corner you have the view finder, I will be straight and say I found this a little awkward when I first got it. I couldn’t really see through it as it is so small, when you have long eyelashes it is also though! I am slowly getting used to it, but I would have liked it to have been a bit bigger.

One last thing I wanted to add is the weight, I was expecting the camera to be really light as it looks like it would be, but it is in fact on the heavy side, but I don’t mind that in the slightest!

I am happy to say I am delighted with the camera, and I wasn’t let down! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and cheerful instant camera! The camera is priced at €95.00 and the refill packets start at €10.00, but many places do special offers on both the camera’s and the refills, so always shop around for the best deals!

I hope you enjoyed this review!

Thank you so much for reading,

Fall Lipstick Favourites!

One thing I love about Fall is pulling out all my dark lipsticks! I love rocking a dark lip, and I would wear it year round, but I wouldn’t have the same excitement about Fall if I did! It would be like drinking Pumpkin Spice Lattes all year, you would have nothing to look forward to and you would get bored with it!

For today’s posts I decided to share my favourite Fall lipsticks!

Inglot – 436

IMG_1866

I never thought I would sport a grey lipstick, but I bought this Inglot matte lipstick to try it out and I ended up loving the colour on myself! It has a purple undertone which I like and it’s not too dark.

The only thing I don’t like is how drying the lipstick is, before applying I like to add a lip balm to prevent too much drying.

IMG_2029

Wet n Wild – Sugar Plum Fairy

IMG_1881

There is nothing like a cheap and cheerful lipstick and this is one of them! I love the Wet n Wild lipsticks, the pigment is on point and the wear of the lipstick is also amazing!

I love wearing this Sugar Plum Fairy shade during the Fall/Winter months because it is a nice deep berry shade! I am quite pale so wearing dark lipsticks can be daring sometimes but this shade is perfect!

IMG_2036

Jeffree Star – Sagittarius

IMG_1884

Jeffree Star has become my go to for liquid lipsticks, I just don’t think I am going to find anything better! This shade is from his Christmas 2016 range, and it caught my eye straight away!

I had a lipstick this shade a long time ago and it was discontinued so I was delighted to find it in a liquid lip form! Although it is on the dark side I still feel like I can pull it off, especially with a mute smokey eye!

IMG_2039

Jeffree Star – Androgyny

IMG_1899

When I first bought this I couldn’t put it down I wore it pretty much all throughout Fall last year! One thing I dislike about dark lipsticks is how obvious it is when it transfers and starts to disappear or bleed on the lips, but thankfully I don’t have to worry about that with these liquid lips, so I tend to wear them more!

IMG_2050

Fuschia – Sophisticated Wine

IMG_1917

Even in Fall I like to wear a bright lip, but I try to go for a shade that is more suited to the fall season and this colour is the perfect shade! It is subtle and not bright neon pink that you might wear during the festival summer months! Sometimes I even like to mix this shade with a darker lip liner to create a nice ombre effect!

IMG_2051

Maybelline – 975 Divine Wine

IMG_1929

This matte lipstick was another go to for me during the Fall/Winter months last year! Although it is matte it is so comfortable to wear and not drying on the lips, which is great for a drug store lipstick! Again if I am feeling daring I will mix it with a darker lip liner to create an ombre effect! I definitely see this one being worn a lot again this year!

IMG_2056

Maybelline – 547 Pleasure Me Red

IMG_1935

There is nothing like a nice red lipstick! This one is definitely one of my favourites because it is slightly on the darker side of red! This is also very comfortable to wear and I don’t find it bleeds as much as other red lipsticks I have tried in the past! Swatching this lipstick gave me some serious Christmas vibes and I got so excited for the festive months!!

IMG_2057

Wet n Wild – Mauve Outta Here

IMG_1959

Another Wet n Wild love of mine! This shade is much brighter than all the lipsticks I have shown in this post, but it is here for a reason! I like to mix darker lip liners and darker lipsticks with this shade to create a new colour! One of my favourite to mix with it is the Inglot Grey lipstick! This picture also makes the lipstick look brighter than it is, it is more of a deep pink shade!

IMG_2075

MAC – Brave

IMG_1973

I love this lipstick so much, which you can clearly see from the picture, I am nearly down to the plastic holder on the inside! I wore this almost everyday when I was in college because it was such an easy colour to wear and it was the perfect shade! Definitely one I will have to repurchase!

IMG_2076

MAC x Rihanna – RiRi Woo

IMG_2006

This red is R E D!! This was the first MAC lipstick I bought! I was on the hunt for a red lipstick and I spotted this in the MAC store, so I bought it, along with MAC’s Cherry lip liner! I love this lipstick especially when I am in my daring mood! But the only downside is how much it bleeds and transfers! It is a matte lipstick and is quite drying on the lips, but I just find it gets everywhere. But I still find myself pulling it out of my collection and wearing it anyway!

IMG_2084

MAC x Ariana Grande – Viva Glam

IMG_2023

Last but not least is a somewhat recent addition! This shade is much more darker than I am used to, but it seems perfect for this season, especially Halloween! I definitely have to feel confident wearing this out, but sure it is only make up!! I love to wear it with a simple eye look, a crease shade, liner and some lashes, very minimal!

Full Line Up!

My Top 5 Fashion Designers!

While studying Fashion Design in college I was inspired and influenced by many great designers, but there are 5 who really stuck out to me, and who I felt a connection with, not only on their design level but their life stories!!

Alexander McQueen

Lee-Alexander-McQueen-e1432034522134

McQueen was one of the first designers I fell in love with, his work inspired me to pursue my dream of being a designer! I loved his sharp and keen eye for detail! I love anything dark and Gothic, although I don’t dress that way, it is how I like to design and it is where I find most of my inspiration!

McQueen got his inspiration from a lot of places, but one I loved the most was the Salem Witch Trials, he had found out he was distantly related to Elizabeth How, a woman accused of witch craft during that period and he decided to use this as his inspiration for his 2007 A/W Ready To Wear collection! Sadly McQueen is no longer with us, but his work is continued on by Sarah Burton and I still feel his style is there, it is slightly different but it still has that McQueen feel!

Zac Posen

zac-posen-portrait-michael-beauplet_horiz

I discovered Posen on Pinterest a while back, I was looking at evening wear dresses and my face hit the floor when I seen one of his gowns. Straight away I knew I was going to love this designer and I did! His gowns are amazingly constructed and the structure he uses in his designs is so fresh and different from other designers!

He designs gowns that really enhance the female figure, which I find beautiful! During a design project in college, I let his design style influence me, I ended up designing a dress which had a structural element to the bodice. I was told by my tutors that it wasn’t going to work, but I was determined to make it work! I work on it for a while and I did it, I made the dress!

Gareth Pugh

Gareth-Pugh-afterparty-copie

When I seen Pugh’s work for the first time I was blown away, I loved how dark his work was but I also loved how he wasn’t afraid to go outside the box!

His collections never failed to impress me and each time I look at his work I feel inspired and motivated to stay true to who I am as a designer! Pugh experiments with different materials, different shapes and forms, he doesn’t stick to the traditional and that is why I like his work!

Jeremy Scott (Moschino)

jeremy-scott-feature-image2

I have always loved Moschino, but after watching Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer on Netflix, I learned just how much work Scott put in to be where he is today! I find his story so inspiring and motivational, Iv doubted myself so many times (still do) but seeing how he came up from rejection and proved that he had what it took to be a designer.

Although his style isn’t the same as mine, I cant help but feel some major love for his designs, they are different and fun and also quite nostalgic!!(Barbie Collection)

Donatella Versace (Versace)

Donatella-Versace-inside10

Versace has also been a long time love of mine, but I didn’t know much about its background. That was until I watched House of Versace I was fascinated by the story and felt the film was done so well! I had a whole new-found respect for Donatella, she had been through hell and came back fighting and stronger than ever!

I’m forever repeating myself, but she is so inspiring, I struggled a lot in college (A story for another post) but after watching this film it actually did give me a little kick, and I knew I could get through it! It is very interesting how other people’s story’s can have such an impact on our own life’s, especially when it is someone you have never met!

Who is your favourite designer?

Doing It In Denim!

I’ve been loving this outfit lately, I recently pulled out my trusty oversized demin jacket from my wardrobe and I haven’t put it back since! It is the perfect weight for the Irish weather, it’s not too heavy and not too light!

I paired it with my new River Island jeans and my Primark body suit. I haven’t worn an outfit like this in a while, and the main reason for that was my weight gain. I felt uncomfortable and to be honest embarrassed, but I recently heard someone say you should be yourself and not care how other people see you, to be you and not what is expected of you! It seemed to get through to me, because I’ve started to wear what I want and what I like, instead of things that hide my weight!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!!

Although it is still summer I can’t help but find myself still wearing black! The weather here in Ireland isn’t what you would find in Spain, so I can pretty much get away with it!

When transitioning into the Fall season it is the perfect time to start lightly layering, here you will see I am wearing a long chiffon top with a Karki green Kimono over it. This layering is light and definitely suitable for the mild weather!

I paired the outfit with my Topshop amo boots and my beige Kurt Geiger bag.

Bath Time Essentials!

I love nothing more than a long bubble bath pamper session after a long day! There are several things I love to use during my pamper session and I thought I would share them with you!

Lush Bathbomb

IMG_0297

Brightside Bubble Bar

Bath time wouldn’t be the same without my favourite Lush bath bombs or bubble bars! I have so many favourites, I find it hard to choose which one to use! I have currently been loving the Lush Lava Lamp bath bomb and the Brightside Bubble Bar!

img_0156.jpg

Lava Lamp Bathbomb

Sometimes I like to mix two together, I will use a bath bomb and half or a third of a bubble bar, that way I’m getting the fun colours of the bath bomb and the big bubbles from the bubble bar!

Body wash

IMG_0276-2

I have tried so many different products, but none have come close to the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Yogurt Body Wash. My skin hasn’t felt this amazing in a long time! The product is packed with natural ingredients such as Oatmeal and it has a lovely creamy consistency, the scent of the product is something else, fresh and sweet! I like to use a rough surface cloth to apply this product, this way I get the benefits of using a scrub without having the bits left all over my skin! The Aveeno body wash is more pricey but is definitely worth the investment!

Face wash & Cloth

IMG_0266-2

I try not to use a lot of products on my face, because I don’t like the idea of all the chemicals on my skin! If I have make up on, I like to remove it using the Cleanse off Face Mitt and sometimes I will use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash if I am wearing heavy make up, but I am on the hunt to find a better make up remover which has less chemicals in it. If you are trying to cut down on skin care products I would highly recommend the Cleanse off mitt, it removes make up fast and effectively, and will save a lot of money on face wipes, as it can be washed and reused!

Face Mask

IMG_0285-2

Face masks are a must for bath time, I used to use a lot of drug store face masks, but again I am trying to cut down on the amount of chemicals I use on my face! I purchased the Lush mask, Mask of Magnaminty, this is my all time favourite as it can be used as a scrub also! I like to keep mine in the fridge so it is ice-cold when I apply it to the skin, this is very refreshing during the summer!

IMG_0292-2

Other face masks I like to use include, The Sanctuary Spa 5 minute detox mask and the Glam Glow Super Mud Mask. (Again I will be replacing them with a more natural product)

Entertainment

anigif_enhanced-buzz-4939-1389475476-31

When I am having a bubble bath pamper session I like to watch something on my laptop! Most of the time I will watch YouTube videos or some episodes of Gilmore Girls! The odd time I will bring a book with me instead.

Body Lotion

IMG_0256-2.jpg

The Aveeno Daily Moisturising Creamy Oil is definitely my new favourite, this moisturizer is so good and has really hydrated my skin! The consistency is perfect as it spreads really well and you only need a little bit! Again it is a bit more pricey than your standard drugstore moisturizer, but it is definitely worth the extra few euro!

They are my Bath Time Essentials, what are yours?? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear from you!

The Design Diary: Testing Dress #2

It has been a while since I done one of these posts! Honestly I hit a wall with the collection and didn’t feel like my designs were going anywhere. I took a break but now I feel like I am starting to get somewhere!

New Samples

To get back into the design process, I went back over my research and started to do new samples, hoping they would drive new ideas!

IMG_0040

When I was in college I was introduced to this amazing water-soluble material! It is used as a fabric stabilizer, or to create your own motifs, which is what I had planned to do!

IMG_0228

Using the shape of the Titanic museum I came up with simple stitch designs. To create these I simply sewed back and forth on the machine using different colour treads.

IMG_0044

I haven’t rinsed the samples yet as I wanted to make a few more on the sample piece to save the material as it is not cheap! When I am dissolving the samples I will photograph the entire process and insert it in the next post!

IMG_0055

I planned to hand sew these onto a finished garment as a texture detail, I was thinking of a nude stretch mesh fabric, but I am keeping my options open until I have a final design for the garment!

Design Sketching

After looking over my research I began to do new sketches for the next garment.

IMG_0174-2

I had sketched up a rough idea for the collection and I really liked the 2 dresses in the middle, but I only liked elements from them. I decided to redesign them by mixing the elements together.

IMG_0206-2

I liked the idea of a straight skirt with a train at the back, and the deep v-neck bodice. I wanted to keep the drape detail from the previous designs so I decided to add them to the neckline. I do want to test out a few necklines with different weights of fabric, for example stiffening some Satin.

Toiling Dress #2

Once I had picked the design I began to work on the patterns to toile the dress!

IMG_0073-2.jpg

I was very happy with the first toile attempt! The shape is exactly what I wanted and the draped bodice is perfect!

IMG_0124.JPG

The only change that would need to be made is the length, it is too short for a standard height model.

IMG_0129.JPG

I am in love with the train, but I would like to make it longer, but for this collection I think it would be best kept at a small size.

IMG_0134.JPG

This dress I would love to make in a stretch satin, this would give the dress some weight and give the train a better drape! I need to stiffen some satin to see if it would hold the structure on the neckline, hopefully it will work as I really like the satin fabric!

Pricing Process

Pricing is a very important part of creating a collection, this information is used if you are selling into retail or simply selling for yourself! Pricing includes a lot of things from the fabric, to tread and to your labour cost!

IMG_0143-2Take a closer look here: CostingSheet

To make the pricing process easier I created a pricing sheet, which will allow me to simply fill in all the information, which can then be all added up at the end to give my final cost of the garment.

Final Notes

Now that I am finally on a roll again, I am going to work hard to finalise the collection. Once everything is finalised I can then start making the garments and getting the model to try all of them on, to ensure they all fit her perfectly.

Once everything is done my most favourite part can begin, which is the photoshoot!!

Thank you for reading!
