Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Review

My fiance James bought me the Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 for my birthday, if you have seen my birthday wish list post you will know it was right on the top of that list, so as you can imagine I was pretty excited when I unwrapped my present!

Seen as this is the new version in the Instax family, I decided to do a quick review of the camera, looking at some of the new features and what I personally like and dislike about the camera!

The Packaging

I will be honest I am a sucker for packaging, I am the type of person who will buy or not buy a product based on how the item is presented!

After unwrapping a 100 layers of pink paper, I was happy to see this gorgeous Smoky White colour box! I really liked this colour out of the line up of shades available in the mini 9 collection!

The box is clear and simple and not overloaded with unnecessary junk! It has the name, model, some features, the camera itself and some sample photo shots! I like packaging that is clean and presented well and this is definitely that!

What Is In The Box

Inside the box is another box and beside this was a silver foil packet, this contained the 10 free Polaroid shots that comes with this kit!

I will be honest I was a little disappointed with the layout, I was expecting to open the outside box to find the camera displayed nicely in a tray mold, but I wasn’t expecting separate packaging. Obviously it is only packaging and it doesn’t take away from the camera itself, but it was just something I felt when I opened it.

The inner box contained the camera itself, which came is a protective sleeve, which I have thrown out! As well as the camera there was 2x AA batteries, instruction manuals, an Instax sticker, a close up lens attachment and a camera strap.

The Camera Itself

The camera looks very similar to the previous model, the mini 8, but you will see some new additions!

The first difference you will spot on the front is the small mirror beside the lens, this is in fact a selfie mirror, to make it easier for users to take selfie shots with the camera. I think this is a great addition, because let’s be honest, we all love taking selfies! This little addition will help prevent the user from not actually being in the shot because they had the angle wrong!!

The next addition is the close up lens attachment, this clips onto the front of the camera lens and it also has a hoop to allow it to be tied to the camera. Although it does not come with a string to tie it on. This attachment allows for close-ups of up to 35cm away. I haven’t felt the need to use the close up lens yet, so I can’t comment on how it works, but I will update later when I have tried it out!

Like the Mini 8, the Mini 9 come with 5 brightness modes, these are as follows,

Hi-Key: Takes pictures with a softer impression

Sunny, Slightly Cloudy

Cloudy, Shade

Indoors, Night

The Instax Mini 9 also informs the user of the best setting to use, it automatically determines the best brightness setting and lights up the right option to allow the user to change it before taking the picture!

The back of the camera is kept simple, it has the compartment for the film to go into, a small window at the bottom corner shows how many shots are remaining in the camera. In the top corner you have the view finder, I will be straight and say I found this a little awkward when I first got it. I couldn’t really see through it as it is so small, when you have long eyelashes it is also though! I am slowly getting used to it, but I would have liked it to have been a bit bigger.

One last thing I wanted to add is the weight, I was expecting the camera to be really light as it looks like it would be, but it is in fact on the heavy side, but I don’t mind that in the slightest!

I am happy to say I am delighted with the camera, and I wasn’t let down! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and cheerful instant camera! The camera is priced at €95.00 and the refill packets start at €10.00, but many places do special offers on both the camera’s and the refills, so always shop around for the best deals!

I hope you enjoyed this review!

Thank you so much for reading,

Fall Lipstick Favourites!

One thing I love about Fall is pulling out all my dark lipsticks! I love rocking a dark lip, and I would wear it year round, but I wouldn’t have the same excitement about Fall if I did! It would be like drinking Pumpkin Spice Lattes all year, you would have nothing to look forward to and you would get bored with it!

For today’s posts I decided to share my favourite Fall lipsticks!

Inglot – 436

I never thought I would sport a grey lipstick, but I bought this Inglot matte lipstick to try it out and I ended up loving the colour on myself! It has a purple undertone which I like and it’s not too dark.

The only thing I don’t like is how drying the lipstick is, before applying I like to add a lip balm to prevent too much drying.

Wet n Wild – Sugar Plum Fairy

There is nothing like a cheap and cheerful lipstick and this is one of them! I love the Wet n Wild lipsticks, the pigment is on point and the wear of the lipstick is also amazing!

I love wearing this Sugar Plum Fairy shade during the Fall/Winter months because it is a nice deep berry shade! I am quite pale so wearing dark lipsticks can be daring sometimes but this shade is perfect!

Jeffree Star – Sagittarius

Jeffree Star has become my go to for liquid lipsticks, I just don’t think I am going to find anything better! This shade is from his Christmas 2016 range, and it caught my eye straight away!

I had a lipstick this shade a long time ago and it was discontinued so I was delighted to find it in a liquid lip form! Although it is on the dark side I still feel like I can pull it off, especially with a mute smokey eye!

Jeffree Star – Androgyny

When I first bought this I couldn’t put it down I wore it pretty much all throughout Fall last year! One thing I dislike about dark lipsticks is how obvious it is when it transfers and starts to disappear or bleed on the lips, but thankfully I don’t have to worry about that with these liquid lips, so I tend to wear them more!

Fuschia – Sophisticated Wine

Even in Fall I like to wear a bright lip, but I try to go for a shade that is more suited to the fall season and this colour is the perfect shade! It is subtle and not bright neon pink that you might wear during the festival summer months! Sometimes I even like to mix this shade with a darker lip liner to create a nice ombre effect!

Maybelline – 975 Divine Wine

This matte lipstick was another go to for me during the Fall/Winter months last year! Although it is matte it is so comfortable to wear and not drying on the lips, which is great for a drug store lipstick! Again if I am feeling daring I will mix it with a darker lip liner to create an ombre effect! I definitely see this one being worn a lot again this year!

Maybelline – 547 Pleasure Me Red

There is nothing like a nice red lipstick! This one is definitely one of my favourites because it is slightly on the darker side of red! This is also very comfortable to wear and I don’t find it bleeds as much as other red lipsticks I have tried in the past! Swatching this lipstick gave me some serious Christmas vibes and I got so excited for the festive months!!

Wet n Wild – Mauve Outta Here

Another Wet n Wild love of mine! This shade is much brighter than all the lipsticks I have shown in this post, but it is here for a reason! I like to mix darker lip liners and darker lipsticks with this shade to create a new colour! One of my favourite to mix with it is the Inglot Grey lipstick! This picture also makes the lipstick look brighter than it is, it is more of a deep pink shade!

MAC – Brave

I love this lipstick so much, which you can clearly see from the picture, I am nearly down to the plastic holder on the inside! I wore this almost everyday when I was in college because it was such an easy colour to wear and it was the perfect shade! Definitely one I will have to repurchase!

MAC x Rihanna – RiRi Woo

This red is R E D!! This was the first MAC lipstick I bought! I was on the hunt for a red lipstick and I spotted this in the MAC store, so I bought it, along with MAC’s Cherry lip liner! I love this lipstick especially when I am in my daring mood! But the only downside is how much it bleeds and transfers! It is a matte lipstick and is quite drying on the lips, but I just find it gets everywhere. But I still find myself pulling it out of my collection and wearing it anyway!

MAC x Ariana Grande – Viva Glam

Last but not least is a somewhat recent addition! This shade is much more darker than I am used to, but it seems perfect for this season, especially Halloween! I definitely have to feel confident wearing this out, but sure it is only make up!! I love to wear it with a simple eye look, a crease shade, liner and some lashes, very minimal!

Full Line Up!

What is one of your Fall go to lipsticks??

August Favourites 2017

Another month has gone by and we are now in Fall/Autumn!! To be honest I’m pretty excited for this season, I can start layering my clothes and lighting the fire!

I have a few things I have really been loving over the past month, so I thought I would do another monthly favourites post!

Evian Facial Spray

Over the past few weeks the humidity in Ireland has been so high and I hate when I start getting really hot and sweaty! I went into Penny’s/Primark and I picked up this little beauty! I haven’t stopped using it since I bought it, it is so refreshing! I know it is just water in a spray can, but it is just so handy to have in your bag, especially for the days when the humidity is through the roof! Another plus to this product is, you can use it over make-up, I have used it several times when I had make up on and it didn’t destroy it and it didn’t make my mascara run!

Primark Demi Wispies Lashes

I got so excited when I seen these in my local Penny’s/Primark, I love the Ardell Wispies, but paying €6 for lashes, that I usually only wear once, is a bit much. These lashes are only €1.50!!! They are so easy to apply and they are very very comfortable to wear! I got so many compliments from people, asking if they were my own! I went in to buy more and they were all out of stock, so clearly other people are loving them too!

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

I started to get bored with my current foundation, so I went and bought the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation, I wanted to try one that was high coverage and this seemed to be just that. I am really impressed with this foundation, especially considering the price, €7.95. I don’t want to give much away because I am working on the product review at the moment, it will be posted soon!

River Island Fur Loafers

I am seriously in love with these loafers! I’m trying to get as much wear out of them as possible, now that we are in Fall the weather is going to start getting bad, so I will barely get to wear them! They are very comfortable to wear and are true to size! They are currently on sale for €18, which is a bargain! I wanted to buy the pink ones, because I loved these so much, but I just don’t think I will get the wear out of them now with the season change. I love that I can wear a simple outfit and add these as a statement, some people don’t like them, but I just love that they are different!

Slippery Elm

I have only been taking this product for about two weeks, but I needed to add it to my favourites! For as long as I can remember I have suffered with IBS and it has caused me a lot of other problems including my high anxiety. This week was the first time, in a few years that I was able to go out for a meal with my friends without any pain, or panic attacks and I honestly couldn’t believe it!! So far I am seeing amazing results, but I don’t want to get my hopes up too much, just in case it doesn’t stay this way! If you suffer with IBS I would highly recommend this product!

Digestive Enzymes

I have been taking these for just over a month and they are also doing an amazing job for my digestion! The digestive enzymes give your body that extra help to break down Protein, fat and carbohydrates! I take these after my meals, and they really help to get rid of the full bloated feeling when you eat too much or eat too quickly! I have also found they have help with bloating!

Herbal Teas

Turmeric Gold

You may have noticed by now I am on a bit of a health kick! While doing research on digestion and herbal remedies I found out turmeric is a natural anti inflammatory! Straight away I thought the tea might help with the pains I get when my body is digesting food. I can’t say for sure that it does because Iv been taking the Slippery Elm at the same time, but the pains are gone, so it was either or! I added it to my list because I love the taste of it, I used to hate herbal teas, but after drinking them for a while your taste buds get used to the taste!

Supreme Matcha Green

I picked up the Matcha tea because I heard it was great for giving you energy! I was hoping it would be as good as my coffee, but let’s be honest, nothing can replace coffee! Again it is a really nice tea to drink and I love have a cup with my breakfast! I have been trying to drink more herbal teas instead of coffee, but it’s not as easy as I had hoped!

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Book

Not only am I trying to learn more about my digestion I am also trying to learn more about my mind, I have suffered with anxiety for a long time now. Although I have found tricks to cope with it, I would also like to learn more about why I think the way I do. I am really enjoying this book, it is so easy to read and to follow, there are little activities to take part in, which help give you a better understanding of the chapters! I would highly recommend it to anyone suffering with mental health problems!

Grace & Frankie

This show came up on my Netflix recommendations and I decided to give it a watch, myself and my Fiance have been binge watching it every weekend! It is such a funny TV show and the story is very good! We are nearly done all the episodes and it will be May before the next season comes out 😦 It is a show about two couples in their 70’s, the 2 husbands tell their wives they are leaving them, for each other, as they have decided to get married after a 20 year affair! The show follows both the lives of the wives and the husbands and how they are coping with their new life’s! It sounds quite confusing, but it is hilarious!

What is your August favourite?

The Black Fur loafers are a recent purchase and I love them with this outfit, They are also very comfortable!

My Top 5 Fashion Designers!

While studying Fashion Design in college I was inspired and influenced by many great designers, but there are 5 who really stuck out to me, and who I felt a connection with, not only on their design level but their life stories!!

Alexander McQueen

McQueen was one of the first designers I fell in love with, his work inspired me to pursue my dream of being a designer! I loved his sharp and keen eye for detail! I love anything dark and Gothic, although I don’t dress that way, it is how I like to design and it is where I find most of my inspiration!

McQueen got his inspiration from a lot of places, but one I loved the most was the Salem Witch Trials, he had found out he was distantly related to Elizabeth How, a woman accused of witch craft during that period and he decided to use this as his inspiration for his 2007 A/W Ready To Wear collection! Sadly McQueen is no longer with us, but his work is continued on by Sarah Burton and I still feel his style is there, it is slightly different but it still has that McQueen feel!

Zac Posen

I discovered Posen on Pinterest a while back, I was looking at evening wear dresses and my face hit the floor when I seen one of his gowns. Straight away I knew I was going to love this designer and I did! His gowns are amazingly constructed and the structure he uses in his designs is so fresh and different from other designers!

He designs gowns that really enhance the female figure, which I find beautiful! During a design project in college, I let his design style influence me, I ended up designing a dress which had a structural element to the bodice. I was told by my tutors that it wasn’t going to work, but I was determined to make it work! I work on it for a while and I did it, I made the dress!

Gareth Pugh

When I seen Pugh’s work for the first time I was blown away, I loved how dark his work was but I also loved how he wasn’t afraid to go outside the box!

His collections never failed to impress me and each time I look at his work I feel inspired and motivated to stay true to who I am as a designer! Pugh experiments with different materials, different shapes and forms, he doesn’t stick to the traditional and that is why I like his work!

Jeremy Scott (Moschino)

I have always loved Moschino, but after watching Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer on Netflix, I learned just how much work Scott put in to be where he is today! I find his story so inspiring and motivational, Iv doubted myself so many times (still do) but seeing how he came up from rejection and proved that he had what it took to be a designer.

Although his style isn’t the same as mine, I cant help but feel some major love for his designs, they are different and fun and also quite nostalgic!!(Barbie Collection)

Donatella Versace (Versace)

Versace has also been a long time love of mine, but I didn’t know much about its background. That was until I watched House of Versace I was fascinated by the story and felt the film was done so well! I had a whole new-found respect for Donatella, she had been through hell and came back fighting and stronger than ever!

I’m forever repeating myself, but she is so inspiring, I struggled a lot in college (A story for another post) but after watching this film it actually did give me a little kick, and I knew I could get through it! It is very interesting how other people’s story’s can have such an impact on our own life’s, especially when it is someone you have never met!

Who is your favourite designer?

Having A Bad Day!

We all have our off days, some more than others, but it is how we cope with them that makes the difference! I have found many things to help me when I am having an off day, whether I am at home or out and about!

Whether it is anxiety, depression or everything isn’t going smoothly, it is important to recognize that you are having a bad day, but it is even more important that you don’t let it define how the rest of your day is going to go, never give in to defeat!

Take a step back and try out one of the following, these are some things I find have helped me when I am having a bad day!

Have A Pamper Session

(A filter was definitely needed here! Snapchat: velvetvogue)

There is nothing a good pamper session can’t fix! If you are at home, take some time to look after yourself! Run a nice hot bubble bath and soak for a while, or even just stick on a face mask! When we feel good on the outside it seems to have the same effect on the inside, so treat yourself, even if it is only for 30 minutes. You will be surprised how taking the time will having a positive reaction!

Watch A Movie

When I am having a down day, I like to get out of my head and focus on something else! When I’m in my own head I have a tendency to make the situations seem worse, which leads me to having an even worse day! I love to sick on a good action movie or a comedy, getting engrossed in a movie or TV show always helps me to escape for a while, and when it is over, my bad day doesn’t seem all that bad anymore!

Listen To Music

Music seems to be the answer for most problems! Making a playlist in prep for a down day can be very beneficial! I have a playlist set up on my Google Play app and when I’m feeling down, I stick it on and boom, I soon feel much better! It is the choice of songs you choose that will affect your mood, I like to add pop music, something I can dance to because the beat always gets me pumped up and ready to boogie! When I want something to help me relax I like to listen to panpipe music! I have no idea where I got it from, but when I hear it, it gives me this over all calm feeling!

Make A Positive List

This can be done if you are at home or out and about! If things don’t seem to be going your way on a particular day, I recommend writing a positive list! This consists of all the things that did go right for you on this day! For example, your alarm went off and you made it to work on time or your kettle worked so you could have your morning coffee! These are the things we don’t normally think about. When was the last time you took a step back and felt truly thankful that the kettle worked in the morning!? It just isn’t something we think about, but when things aren’t going right we tend to dwell on them instead of just accepting it! Making this list will show you that your day isn’t all that bad, and if everything on your list wasn’t there, it could have been a worse day!

Look Up Funny Pictures/Videos

Laughter can really help when you are feeling down, but you have to allow yourself to laugh. When we are down we tend to allow ourselves to stay that way, we dwell on the bad feelings and just feel sorry for ourselves, I know I am guilty of it! Google some funny images, or look some up on Pinterest, I typed in Dog Confessions, and I will tell you the tears were streaming down my face because they were so funny! I even spread the laughter by sending the images to my family, so in turn I was brightening up their day too!

Turn To Someone!

Never be afraid to talk to someone when you are down, find comfort in a close friend or a family member! Invite someone over for some tea or coffee and just have a talk, interacting with people can really help in a down mood situation!

If you have a pet, play with them for a few minutes, remember pets are always there for us and will always have love for their owner! I’m very lucky with my new pup, when I am upset he knows, and he actually approaches and cuddles up to me!

Having some sort of interaction with someone is very important, as it gets us out of our own heads and helps us to focus on something else!

I hope you find these tips useful!

Have you any suggestions for things to do if you’re having a bad day??

Doing It In Denim!

I’ve been loving this outfit lately, I recently pulled out my trusty oversized demin jacket from my wardrobe and I haven’t put it back since! It is the perfect weight for the Irish weather, it’s not too heavy and not too light!

I paired it with my new River Island jeans and my Primark body suit. I haven’t worn an outfit like this in a while, and the main reason for that was my weight gain. I felt uncomfortable and to be honest embarrassed, but I recently heard someone say you should be yourself and not care how other people see you, to be you and not what is expected of you! It seemed to get through to me, because I’ve started to wear what I want and what I like, instead of things that hide my weight!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!!

Although it is still summer I can’t help but find myself still wearing black! The weather here in Ireland isn’t what you would find in Spain, so I can pretty much get away with it!

When transitioning into the Fall season it is the perfect time to start lightly layering, here you will see I am wearing a long chiffon top with a Karki green Kimono over it. This layering is light and definitely suitable for the mild weather!

I paired the outfit with my Topshop amo boots and my beige Kurt Geiger bag.

These items are not available anymore, but I will link similar versions!
