How To Make A Skirt Pattern/Block

Growing up I always wanted to know how to make my own clothes! This led me to study Fashion Design in college!

I’m very passionate about design and decided it would be fun to teach others how to make their own clothes, so I set up a new YouTube channel. This channel will be solely dedicated to Fashion Design and construction!

I will be making step by step guides on how to make different styles of clothing!

If you are interested in learning how to do it yourself check out my channel linked below!

The Design Diary

This post is s step by step guide on how to make a skirt pattern/block. From this block you can do a range of different styles simply by changing the length, width etc.

I will also leave a free downloadable version of this post so you can follow it along with the video or simply on its own!

I hope you enjoy creating and keep an eye out for my next few videos, which will be a follow-up from the skirt block!

Valentines Day Gifts For Her

Valentines day is fast approaching, and now is the time to start looking for gifts for your loved one, your friend or even yourself! I was never hugely into V-Day until I met my Fiance, now we take this time to get away for a day or two and just spend all our time with each other!

In this blog post you will find my top gifts for her for V-Day, remember it’s not always about the gifts, but more so the time you get to spend with each other, which brings me to my first gift idea!

A City Break

main_banner_1

Surprising your other half with a weekend away is always a great gift! Last year my fiance surprised me with a 2 night stay in the Morgan Hotel in Dublin, followed by his marriage proposal, which blew it out of the park!! That is not what I am hinting at here πŸ˜‚.

A weekend away is a great alternative to buying a gift, it is something for both of you! There is so much you could do, visit the local museum, go to a fancy restaurant or even simply go shopping, every woman loves to shop!

If a weekend break is out of your budget, you could consider a night away in a local hotel followed by a candle lit meal, this would definitely rack up the brownie points and around V-Day a lot, if not all hotels offer Valentines Day Deals!

A Spa Visit

The-spa-at-the-Shelbourne-logo-831x600

A spa trip together or even a voucher for her to enjoy on her own, is a great gift for the busy bee person in your life, who is always working or looking after everyone else, or even for a person who simply loves to be pampered! This is a very thoughtful gift and it is definitely something a woman would love, whether it is a full body message or simply getting her nails painted! Spas offer a range of treatments so there is definitely something for everyone!

Perfume

Peony_Blush_Suede_Fragrance_Combining_Trio

These come in a range of sizes, and prices start from €54.00, they also offer a range of gift boxes!

2

Hampers

Hampers And Co Logo

Hampers are a great gift idea, for any occasion! Whether it is store-bought or handmade by you, the person on the receiving end is sure to be happy!

This company is based in Ireland and the hampers they make are incredible. There really is something for everyone, from gin lovers to coffee fanatics and they come in a range of prices starting at €13 to €1000!

Jewellery

Chupi-New-York-Now-2015

“Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend”

Jewellery is a frequently bought gift for V-Day, but it isn’t a bad thing! The only problem I see, is not all woman like to wear jewellery, so this could be an issue! If the woman in your life prefers to wear one piece all the time then this company is the one for her!

They offer a range of handmade pieces from rings to necklaces, along with a range of personalised pieces!!

Below are a few necklace styles they offer, which also come in, rose gold and 18k gold!

Flowers

Lucky-Star-Cheltenham-Flowers1

If buying gifts isn’t something both of you do, then why not make a small gesture by getting a bunch of really pretty flowers! To make it extra special you could get them delivered to her house or work place as a nice surprise to brighten up her day!

I always complained I never got flowers, and then the first year my fiance bought me some, he got them deliver to my house. I couldn’t find the key to the front door, so I had to try and squeeze the flowers through a small windowπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚, it was awkward and the delivery guy found it hilarious, but the flowers were beautiful!!

That is my list of gift ideas for her for Valentines Day!

But remember it’s not always about giftsπŸ˜‰

My Goals For 2018!

As we all know a new year means a new you or at least working to improve the person you have already become! Whether that means a new diet, new wardrobe, new hair style or even a new occupation, the new year gives us the chance to start on a clean slate!

Today’s blog post is my goals for 2018, ranging from really big, to simple achievable goals! I think it is very important to not only set yourself challenges, but to also set yourself small goals that you know you can achieve, this way you will always be able to check things off your list and not be left disappointed if you can’t complete the tasks you have set out for yourself!

high

  1. Lose Weight & Have a Healthy Lifestyle

weight

I am currently the heaviest I have ever been, and I’m not afraid to admit that! I had a lot of changes in my life and unfortunately I allowed myself to indulge in a few too many treats! This year I have promised myself I would embrace a new healthier lifestyle!

I am getting married in 2 years and I want to use that as motivation to help get me to the place I want to be! I want to give myself time to work on it and not feel under pressure to lose the weight quickly!

I’m making small but effective changes to get myself started! I am having smaller portions as this is a main problem for me, I tend to eat big meals to the point where I am to full to move! I’m introducing more fruit into my diet to replace snack items. Increasing my water intake is another big change I am trying to make, and to be honest, it is one of the hardest to do! I try to keep a bottle beside me at all times to remind myself to keep drinking the water, but when I forget that bottle my intake for the day is really bad!

2. Apply For Our Mortgage!

transcoder

This goal is by far the biggest, scariest and most exciting goal I have ever had! Myself and my fiance have been saving for our mortgage for a while now, and things are finally starting to look really good. We have budgeted really well over the past year and from what we have calculated for this coming year we will be hopefully looking to apply for our mortgage approval by the end of 2018!

Having my own home has always been a dream for me and to think it is going to hopefully be a reality this year is scary and very exciting all rolled into one!

I’m going to be an ADULT!

  1. Do More of What Makes Me Happy

95646da9dc6c3beb9ef45ffdbaabaf3b

I recently realised I don’t do a lot of the things I used to love doing. I have been neglecting my hobbies simply because I have been so busy doing things for other people. I know this sounds nasty but what I mean is, any time I have set aside for my hobbies I end up using it on other people, for example, I go into town to collect stuff for my parents, people pop up unannounced and the time I have set aside is gone. This year I have promised myself I will be more strict when it comes to this, it is time I start looking after myself and if I have time left over I can then use it to do things for others. I hope that makes it sound a little less selfish!Β πŸ˜‚

2. Continue To Work On My Mental Health

Positivity

I have been working really hard on my mental health for a while now, and I am finally starting to see some good results! It is a long process but every step is a step towards getting it under control and I can see that now! I have been pushing myself to step outside my comfort zones, and putting myself in situations I would usually run away from! It is difficult to do but when you come out the other end alive and in one piece you really do appreciate what you have just done, and it makes it that little bit easier to do it again!

I promised myself to continue to work hard on my MH and to push myself further this year!

3. Give My Blog Some Love Again

blog

If you follow my blog you will know I have really been neglecting it for the past few months! The honest answer I can give for that is, I was spending so much time working on my YouTube channel that I never left time for my blog!

This year I told myself I need to plan my time better and give both my blog and channel an equal amount of love!

I have new ideas I want to introduce to both my platforms and I’m really excited to start them!

4. Reach 300 Subscribers On YouTube

yt

This ones if a funny one for me and I will explain why!

I have had my YouTube channel for 3 year and I have 295 Subscribers, I have been on and off my channel for 2 years, which caused my view counts to suffer (something to do with YouTube’s System). I have been working really hard over the past 3 months to try to get my view back up, but it still seems to be suffering! I have been stuck at 290 subscribers since last year and have managed to increase by 5 subs in the past 3 months.

I’m trying to grow my channel as I love making videos and it helps so much with confidence building, but its hard when your channel isn’t going anywhere and you don’t get much interaction, even after putting loads of time and work into your content. It makes it hard to stay motivated.

I am not willing to give up yet, I have loads of fun ideas which I plan to complete this year, hopefully my channel will start to grow, but for now I am going to enjoy making my content!

5. Get My Hair Done!

Untitled collage

I have had so many different hair styles and colours over the years, but I decided last year I wanted to let my natural colour come back and so I started to grow out my hair. It was so hard to do as I was so tempted to dye my hair again but I stuck with it and I’m finally there!

My hair has grown out so much and it is pretty much my natural colour, about 2 inches at the bottom is still dyed hair but I haven’t had the chance to get it cut off.

Now that I have reached my goal, I want to go and get my hair trimmed and styled so I finally have my new fresh look for 2018!

6. Read More Books

IMG_4560

I love to read, but I go through phases! I will read loads for a few months and then I will give up for another few months! This year I want to try to continue to read through the entire year! I want to start reading more educational books and less fiction or at least find a balance!

I have bought my first book to read for 2018 and that is #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, I’m really looking forward to getting into it and learning about how she went from drop out to running Nasty Gal!

7. Start Designing Again

IMG_9310

Again if you follow my blog you will know I kind of gave up on my Design Diary project. I gave up simply because I wasn’t happy with my designs and I stopped giving myself time to work on it. The more time I spent away from it, the more time I had to find all the faults and reasons to hate it!

This year I want to start working on smaller projects, whether it is designing a dress and actually making it or just simply designing dresses based on some inspiration. Keeping it simple for now is probably my best option, I think throwing myself into a lot of work will just end with me getting bored and forgetting about it, or simply not having the time to finish it!

They are my goals for 2018! I hope I can complete them all, or at least complete some of them! I’m not going to put pressure on myself! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ That should have been a goal too, stop putting myself under pressure!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Leave me a comment and let me know what is one of your goals for 2018!

Thank you for reading!

Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Review

My fiance James bought me the Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 for my birthday, if you have seen my birthday wish list post you will know it was right on the top of that list, so as you can imagine I was pretty excited when I unwrapped my present!

Seen as this is the new version in the Instax family, I decided to do a quick review of the camera, looking at some of the new features and what I personally like and dislike about the camera!

The Packaging

IMG_2168

I will be honest I am a sucker for packaging, I am the type of person who will buy or not buy a product based on how the item is presented!

After unwrapping a 100 layers of pink paper, I was happy to see this gorgeous Smoky White colour box! I really liked this colour out of the line up of shades available in the mini 9 collection!

The box is clear and simple and not overloaded with unnecessary junk! It has the name, model, some features, the camera itself and some sample photo shots! I like packaging that is clean and presented well and this is definitely that!

What Is In The Box

IMG_2189

Inside the box is another box and beside this was a silver foil packet, this contained the 10 free Polaroid shots that comes with this kit!

I will be honest I was a little disappointed with the layout, I was expecting to open the outside box to find the camera displayed nicely in a tray mold, but I wasn’t expecting separate packaging. Obviously it is only packaging and it doesn’t take away from the camera itself, but it was just something I felt when I opened it.

IMG_2203

The inner box contained the camera itself, which came is a protective sleeve, which I have thrown out! As well as the camera there was 2x AA batteries, instruction manuals, an Instax sticker, a close up lens attachment and a camera strap.

The Camera Itself

IMG_2273

The camera looks very similar to the previous model, the mini 8, but you will see some new additions!

IMG_2226

The first difference you will spot on the front is the small mirror beside the lens, this is in fact a selfie mirror, to make it easier for users to take selfie shots with the camera. I think this is a great addition, because let’s be honest, we all love taking selfies! This little addition will help prevent the user from not actually being in the shot because they had the angle wrong!!

IMG_2220

The next addition is the close up lens attachment, this clips onto the front of the camera lens and it also has a hoop to allow it to be tied to the camera. Although it does not come with a string to tie it on. This attachment allows for close-ups of up to 35cm away. I haven’t felt the need to use the close up lens yet, so I can’t comment on how it works, but I will update later when I have tried it out!

Like the Mini 8, the Mini 9 come with 5 brightness modes, these are as follows,

IMG_2261

Hi-Key: Takes pictures with a softer impression

Sunny

Sunny, Slightly Cloudy

Cloudy, Shade

Indoors, Night

The Instax Mini 9 also informs the user of the best setting to use, it automatically determines the best brightness setting and lights up the right option to allow the user to change it before taking the picture!

The back of the camera is kept simple, it has the compartment for the film to go into, a small window at the bottom corner shows how many shots are remaining in the camera. In the top corner you have the view finder, I will be straight and say I found this a little awkward when I first got it. I couldn’t really see through it as it is so small, when you have long eyelashes it is also though! I am slowly getting used to it, but I would have liked it to have been a bit bigger.

One last thing I wanted to add is the weight, I was expecting the camera to be really light as it looks like it would be, but it is in fact on the heavy side, but I don’t mind that in the slightest!

I am happy to say I am delighted with the camera, and I wasn’t let down! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and cheerful instant camera! The camera is priced at €95.00 and the refill packets start at €10.00, but many places do special offers on both the camera’s and the refills, so always shop around for the best deals!

I hope you enjoyed this review!

Thank you so much for reading,

Fall Lipstick Favourites!

One thing I love about Fall is pulling out all my dark lipsticks! I love rocking a dark lip, and I would wear it year round, but I wouldn’t have the same excitement about Fall if I did! It would be like drinking Pumpkin Spice Lattes all year, you would have nothing to look forward to and you would get bored with it!

For today’s posts I decided to share my favourite Fall lipsticks!

Inglot – 436

IMG_1866

I never thought I would sport a grey lipstick, but I bought this Inglot matte lipstick to try it out and I ended up loving the colour on myself! It has a purple undertone which I like and it’s not too dark.

The only thing I don’t like is how drying the lipstick is, before applying I like to add a lip balm to prevent too much drying.

IMG_2029

Wet n Wild – Sugar Plum Fairy

IMG_1881

There is nothing like a cheap and cheerful lipstick and this is one of them! I love the Wet n Wild lipsticks, the pigment is on point and the wear of the lipstick is also amazing!

I love wearing this Sugar Plum Fairy shade during the Fall/Winter months because it is a nice deep berry shade! I am quite pale so wearing dark lipsticks can be daring sometimes but this shade is perfect!

IMG_2036

Jeffree Star – Sagittarius

IMG_1884

Jeffree Star has become my go to for liquid lipsticks, I just don’t think I am going to find anything better! This shade is from his Christmas 2016 range, and it caught my eye straight away!

I had a lipstick this shade a long time ago and it was discontinued so I was delighted to find it in a liquid lip form! Although it is on the dark side I still feel like I can pull it off, especially with a mute smokey eye!

IMG_2039

Jeffree Star – Androgyny

IMG_1899

When I first bought this I couldn’t put it down I wore it pretty much all throughout Fall last year! One thing I dislike about dark lipsticks is how obvious it is when it transfers and starts to disappear or bleed on the lips, but thankfully I don’t have to worry about that with these liquid lips, so I tend to wear them more!

IMG_2050

Fuschia – Sophisticated Wine

IMG_1917

Even in Fall I like to wear a bright lip, but I try to go for a shade that is more suited to the fall season and this colour is the perfect shade! It is subtle and not bright neon pink that you might wear during the festival summer months! Sometimes I even like to mix this shade with a darker lip liner to create a nice ombre effect!

IMG_2051

Maybelline – 975 Divine Wine

IMG_1929

This matte lipstick was another go to for me during the Fall/Winter months last year! Although it is matte it is so comfortable to wear and not drying on the lips, which is great for a drug store lipstick! Again if I am feeling daring I will mix it with a darker lip liner to create an ombre effect! I definitely see this one being worn a lot again this year!

IMG_2056

Maybelline – 547 Pleasure Me Red

IMG_1935

There is nothing like a nice red lipstick! This one is definitely one of my favourites because it is slightly on the darker side of red! This is also very comfortable to wear and I don’t find it bleeds as much as other red lipsticks I have tried in the past! Swatching this lipstick gave me some serious Christmas vibes and I got so excited for the festive months!!

IMG_2057

Wet n Wild – Mauve Outta Here

IMG_1959

Another Wet n Wild love of mine! This shade is much brighter than all the lipsticks I have shown in this post, but it is here for a reason! I like to mix darker lip liners and darker lipsticks with this shade to create a new colour! One of my favourite to mix with it is the Inglot Grey lipstick! This picture also makes the lipstick look brighter than it is, it is more of a deep pink shade!

IMG_2075

MAC – Brave

IMG_1973

I love this lipstick so much, which you can clearly see from the picture, I am nearly down to the plastic holder on the inside! I wore this almost everyday when I was in college because it was such an easy colour to wear and it was the perfect shade! Definitely one I will have to repurchase!

IMG_2076

MAC x Rihanna – RiRi Woo

IMG_2006

This red is R E D!! This was the first MAC lipstick I bought! I was on the hunt for a red lipstick and I spotted this in the MAC store, so I bought it, along with MAC’s Cherry lip liner! I love this lipstick especially when I am in my daring mood! But the only downside is how much it bleeds and transfers! It is a matte lipstick and is quite drying on the lips, but I just find it gets everywhere. But I still find myself pulling it out of my collection and wearing it anyway!

IMG_2084

MAC x Ariana Grande – Viva Glam

IMG_2023

Last but not least is a somewhat recent addition! This shade is much more darker than I am used to, but it seems perfect for this season, especially Halloween! I definitely have to feel confident wearing this out, but sure it is only make up!! I love to wear it with a simple eye look, a crease shade, liner and some lashes, very minimal!

Full Line Up!

August Favourites 2017

Another month has gone by and we are now in Fall/Autumn!! To be honest I’m pretty excited for this season, I can start layering my clothes and lighting the fire!

I have a few things I have really been loving over the past month, so I thought I would do another monthly favourites post!

Evian Facial Spray

IMG_1345

Over the past few weeks the humidity in Ireland has been so high and I hate when I start getting really hot and sweaty! I went into Penny’s/Primark and I picked up this little beauty! I haven’t stopped using it since I bought it, it is so refreshing! I know it is just water in a spray can, but it is just so handy to have in your bag, especially for the days when the humidity is through the roof! Another plus to this product is, you can use it over make-up, I have used it several times when I had make up on and it didn’t destroy it and it didn’t make my mascara run!

Primark Demi Wispies Lashes

IMG_1431

I got so excited when I seen these in my local Penny’s/Primark, I love the Ardell Wispies, but paying €6 for lashes, that I usually only wear once, is a bit much. These lashes are only €1.50!!! They are so easy to apply and they are very very comfortable to wear! I got so many compliments from people, asking if they were my own! I went in to buy more and they were all out of stock, so clearly other people are loving them too!

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

IMG_1354.jpg

I started to get bored with my current foundation, so I went and bought the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation, I wanted to try one that was high coverage and this seemed to be just that. I am really impressed with this foundation, especially considering the price, €7.95. I don’t want to give much away because I am working on the product review at the moment, it will be posted soon!

River Island Fur Loafers

IMG_0675

I am seriously in love with these loafers! I’m trying to get as much wear out of them as possible, now that we are in Fall the weather is going to start getting bad, so I will barely get to wear them! They are very comfortable to wear and are true to size! They are currently on sale for €18, which is a bargain! I wanted to buy the pink ones, because I loved these so much, but I just don’t think I will get the wear out of them now with the season change. I love that I can wear a simple outfit and add these as a statement, some people don’t like them, but I just love that they are different!

Supplements

IMG_1358

Slippery Elm

I have only been taking this product for about two weeks, but I needed to add it to my favourites! For as long as I can remember I have suffered with IBS and it has caused me a lot of other problems including my high anxiety. This week was the first time, in a few years that I was able to go out for a meal with my friends without any pain, or panic attacks and I honestly couldn’t believe it!! So far I am seeing amazing results, but I don’t want to get my hopes up too much, just in case it doesn’t stay this way! If you suffer with IBS I would highly recommend this product!

Digestive Enzymes

I have been taking these for just over a month and they are also doing an amazing job for my digestion! The digestive enzymes give your body that extra help to break down Protein, fat and carbohydrates! I take these after my meals, and they really help to get rid of the full bloated feeling when you eat too much or eat too quickly! I have also found they have help with bloating!

Herbal Teas

Turmeric Gold

You may have noticed by now I am on a bit of a health kick! While doing research on digestion and herbal remedies I found out turmeric is a natural anti inflammatory! Straight away I thought the tea might help with the pains I get when my body is digesting food. I can’t say for sure that it does because Iv been taking the Slippery Elm at the same time, but the pains are gone, so it was either or! I added it to my list because I love the taste of it, I used to hate herbal teas, but after drinking them for a while your taste buds get used to the taste!

Supreme Matcha Green

I picked up the Matcha tea because I heard it was great for giving you energy! I was hoping it would be as good as my coffee, but let’s be honest, nothing can replace coffee! Again it is a really nice tea to drink and I love have a cup with my breakfast! I have been trying to drink more herbal teas instead of coffee, but it’s not as easy as I had hoped!

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Book

IMG_1217.jpg

Not only am I trying to learn more about my digestion I am also trying to learn more about my mind, I have suffered with anxiety for a long time now. Although I have found tricks to cope with it, I would also like to learn more about why I think the way I do. I am really enjoying this book, it is so easy to read and to follow, there are little activities to take part in, which help give you a better understanding of the chapters! I would highly recommend it to anyone suffering with mental health problems!

Grace & Frankie

Grace-and-Frankie-Netflix-Original-Cast

This show came up on my Netflix recommendations and I decided to give it a watch, myself and my Fiance have been binge watching it every weekend! It is such a funny TV show and the story is very good! We are nearly done all the episodes and it will be May before the next season comes out 😦 It is a show about two couples in their 70’s, the 2 husbands tell their wives they are leaving them, for each other, as they have decided to get married after a 20 year affair! The show follows both the lives of the wives and the husbands and how they are coping with their new life’s! It sounds quite confusing, but it is hilarious!

My Top 5 Fashion Designers!

While studying Fashion Design in college I was inspired and influenced by many great designers, but there are 5 who really stuck out to me, and who I felt a connection with, not only on their design level but their life stories!!

Alexander McQueen

McQueen was one of the first designers I fell in love with, his work inspired me to pursue my dream of being a designer! I loved his sharp and keen eye for detail! I love anything dark and Gothic, although I don’t dress that way, it is how I like to design and it is where I find most of my inspiration!

McQueen got his inspiration from a lot of places, but one I loved the most was the Salem Witch Trials, he had found out he was distantly related to Elizabeth How, a woman accused of witch craft during that period and he decided to use this as his inspiration for his 2007 A/W Ready To Wear collection! Sadly McQueen is no longer with us, but his work is continued on by Sarah Burton and I still feel his style is there, it is slightly different but it still has that McQueen feel!

Zac Posen

I discovered Posen on Pinterest a while back, I was looking at evening wear dresses and my face hit the floor when I seen one of his gowns. Straight away I knew I was going to love this designer and I did! His gowns are amazingly constructed and the structure he uses in his designs is so fresh and different from other designers!

He designs gowns that really enhance the female figure, which I find beautiful! During a design project in college, I let his design style influence me, I ended up designing a dress which had a structural element to the bodice. I was told by my tutors that it wasn’t going to work, but I was determined to make it work! I work on it for a while and I did it, I made the dress!

Gareth Pugh

When I seen Pugh’s work for the first time I was blown away, I loved how dark his work was but I also loved how he wasn’t afraid to go outside the box!

His collections never failed to impress me and each time I look at his work I feel inspired and motivated to stay true to who I am as a designer! Pugh experiments with different materials, different shapes and forms, he doesn’t stick to the traditional and that is why I like his work!

Jeremy Scott (Moschino)

I have always loved Moschino, but after watching Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer on Netflix, I learned just how much work Scott put in to be where he is today! I find his story so inspiring and motivational, Iv doubted myself so many times (still do) but seeing how he came up from rejection and proved that he had what it took to be a designer.

Although his style isn’t the same as mine, I cant help but feel some major love for his designs, they are different and fun and also quite nostalgic!!(Barbie Collection)

Donatella Versace (Versace)

Versace has also been a long time love of mine, but I didn’t know much about its background. That was until I watched House of Versace I was fascinated by the story and felt the film was done so well! I had a whole new-found respect for Donatella, she had been through hell and came back fighting and stronger than ever!

I’m forever repeating myself, but she is so inspiring, I struggled a lot in college (A story for another post) but after watching this film it actually did give me a little kick, and I knew I could get through it! It is very interesting how other people’s story’s can have such an impact on our own life’s, especially when it is someone you have never met!
